Hudson was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of the Academy Award-winning actress Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson, an actor, comedian and musician.Her parents separated at the age of 18 months. old , and she and her older brother who was an actor, Oliver Hudson, were raised in Snowmass, Colorado, and Pacific Palisades, California by the mother of her and her longtime boyfriend actor Kurt Russell.Hudson's roots are Italian (from her paternal grandmother), Hungarian Jewish (from her maternal grandmother),and the rest of her family is a mix of English as well as some German.She was raised Jewish and like her mother, she also practices Buddhism.Hudson has declared that her biological father "doesn't know her from a crack in the wall", and she considers Russell as her father.Hudson has stated that her mother is "the person I've learned the most from and who I look up to and who has led her life in a manner that I can emulate".
